Yvonne Shirley Unfried

Yvonne Shirley Unfried was born on November 1, 1935 in Los Angeles, California to Percy Harold and Sylvia Hermina Clingerman. Yvonne was raised in south central Los Angeles and attended Budlong Elementary, John Muir Jr. High and Manual Arts High School.



As a young adult, Yvonne attended Los Angeles City College, Fullerton College and Pepperdine College. On September 7, 1956 Yvonne married Richard Unfried. The couple had two children David Richard and Thomas Allen and settled and raised their family in La Mirada, California. After a decade of marriage, Yvonne returned to the academic world and completed her degree at Cal State Los Angeles.



Yvonne was a life-long resident of Southern California. She and Richard lived in La Mirada for 54 years, during which time she worked as a school secretary and office manager for Fullerton School District. In 1993, she retired after 20 years with the school district.



Yvonne was an active choir participant from 1956 2006. She was involved in the Crystal Cathedral choir from 1963-1984, the San Marino Presbyterian choir from 1984 1991 and the EvFree Fullerton choir from 1991 2006. Needless to say, singing was one of her favorite pastimes. Beyond singing, she also was an accomplished writer and wrote a novel which was published in 2011. She also did extensive genealogical research and loved to travel. Her travels took her on four trips to Europe and one trip to Japan. Yvonne and Richard were also involved members at EvFree Fullerton Church.



On December 22, 2016 in Fullerton, California, Yvonne went home to be with the Lord at the age of 81. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Richard, her two sons: David and Thomas, sisters: Jacquelin Thompson and Clara Spence and two grandchildren: Tara Rene Unfried and Andrew David Unfried.
