Virginia Spragins Gauldin

January 14, 1929 — February 19, 2018

Virginia S. Gauldin passed away peacefully on February 19, 2018 surrounded by her family. Virginia - also known among family and friends as Ginni - was born in Los Angeles, California to George and Georga Spragins. She grew up in Arcadia along with her younger brother, George Samuel Spragins Jr. While attending Whittier College she fell in love with Robert Jackson Gauldin. They married in 1949 and settled in Whittier where they raised their children, Anne, Paula, and Dan.

Ginni was actively involved with the Whittier community. As a dedicated member of the National Charity League and PTA, she proudly served at different times as President of both organizations as well as a troop leader for the Girl Scouts. She and her family were members of the First Friends Church where she pursued her love of music by singing every Sunday in the choir. Ginni cherished her dear friends from church who became lifelong friends.

Ginni enjoyed music, reading, yoga, skiing and fast cars. She especially loved spending time at their house on the Balboa Peninsula which she always delighted in sharing with family and friends. After Ginni and Jack divorced in 1975 and the children were on their own, Ginni established a career for herself, enjoyed many adventurous years of world travel, and savored her morning ritual of completing the LA Times crossword puzzle.

Ginni will always be deeply loved and missed by her family: brother Sam Spragins (Gigi) and their family, children Anne Gauldin (Les Nakashima), Paula Farrington (Greg), Dan Gauldin (Sue), grandchildren Jeff (Tootsa), Sam, Roberta, and Lianna and great granddaughter Harlee.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Ginnis memory to Whittier College (fund name: Whittier Fund Arts Initiative), Office of Advancement, 13406 E. Philadelphia Street, P.O. Box 634, Whittier, CA 90608 or to The Nature Conservancy, Attn: Treasury, 4245 N. Fairfax Dr. Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203.

A memorial service and celebration of Ginnis life will be held Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11:00 am at the White Emerson Mortuary Chapel, 13304 E. Philadelphia Street, Whittier, CA 90601, (562) 698-0304 followed by a reception at 12:30 pm at the DoubleTree by Hilton Whittier, 7320 Greenleaf Avenue, Whittier, CA 90602 (562) 945-8511.
