Vilis Tammen Banks III

In 2002, Vilis moved to Orange County, where he began his 18-year career at the

Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach as a Materials Handler. His dedication and

excellence earned him the Award of Excellence from the Naval Munitions Command.

He took great pride in his work, particularly in training new employees and greeting

sailors, who often presented him with Navy challenge coins in recognition of his

camaraderie and respect for the military.

On October 24, 2019, Vilis married the love of his life, Erica Jasmine Marquez. They

celebrated their dream wedding in Mexico on December 21, 2019, beginning a

partnership marked by shared joy and mutual support. Vilis often volunteered his

time in his wife's classroom, helping with Career Day, classroom setup, and reading

to students.

Faith played a central role in Vilis's life from an early age. Baptized by his

grandfather, Reverend Willie Robinson, at Mount Sinai Baptist Church, he served as

a church usher, preparing for First Sunday services and assisting congregation

members.

An avid collector of Hot Wheels since childhood, Vilis maintained his passion for cars

throughout his life, extending to his interest in NASCAR races. He found joy in video

gaming, particularly GTA5, and shared friendly competitions with his wife playing

Super Mario Bros. In his younger years, he cherished taking road trips with his

mother and nephews Clayton and Brian.

Vilis is survived by his loving wife, Erica Jasmine Marquez, and siblings Teffanie

Montgomery, La Rhonda Thomas-Bailey, Myesha Smith, Quillan Banks, Doron Banks,

and Vania Banks. He was preceded in death by his siblings Teresa Banks and Anthony

Banks. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and a large extended

family of relatives and friends who will deeply miss his kind heart and generous

spirit.
