Victor Alio, 77, passed away at his home in Whittier on June 27, 2018. Born in Tunisia, Africa on April 1, 1941, Victor was born to Charles & Elizabeth (Raphael) Alio who were of Italian and French descent. Victor was known as quite a character to those who knew him, and he leaves a legacy through the lives of his children, grandchildren and friends.
Growing up in Tunisia, Victor spent the majority of his youth playing soccer with friends before leaving the country at age 16. His family came to the United States and immediately he settled in southern California. He lived in Montebello for a few years before finally coming to Whittier. Victor only completed school through the 11th grade, however, his education never stopped. He would work the majority of his career as a Machinist in the aerospace industry. Among his most notable accomplishments was his work on the first space shuttle. He was extremely proud of his involvement in this project and was an avid collector of space shuttle memorabilia signifying his paramount work.
In 1961, Victor met Michele Henke and they were married in 1964. Together they had two children, Michael and Yvonne. Victor was a devoted Catholic. His devotion to the Church was very important to him, attending St. Marys Catholic church for the many years that he lived in Whittier. In addition to his time spent at church, Victor was a true outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. His skills with machinery also came in handy when he built a miniature motorized bike for his son, Michael, to ride around on in the abandoned parking lot of a local Goodyear Tire. And as much as being in the great-outdoors or tinkering on some machinery project intrigued him, not much interested him more than a great horse race or the thrill of playing the lottery. Victor was a man of conviction and his memory will stand as an example for those who knew him.
Victor is survived by his children, Michael Alio and Yvonne (Casey) Bunce; his grandchildren, Amanda and Nicholas; and his siblings, Joe, Albert, Mike, Pierre, and Marie.
