Longtime Whittier resident, Ruth Adams Miller passed away February 4, 2016, at her home from natural causes. She will be remembered most for her lifetime love of gardening, reading mysteries, antiques, traveling the world and opening her home to family and many foreign students while teaching at Whittier College.
Ruth was born January 15, 1926 in Albany, NY to Katherine Oberholtzer Adams & John Quincy Adams. She was married for 37 years to Keith W. Miller the former Whittier Mayor and Councilman (1962-1974) who preceded her in death in 1986.
She graduated from Vassar College (BS); Yale University School of Nursing (MSN); University of Southern California (JD).
She was employed as a Public Health Nurse with Los Angeles County; a Political Science and Government faculty member at Whittier College (1959-1971) and as Dean of Women Whittier College.

Survivors: daughters-Kitty Miller Shulman (Bob), Betsy Miller Angevine (Mark) and Maggie Miller Bernal (Tom Baccaro); grandchildren-Emma Angevine Narvaez (Alex), Frances Angevine, Ben Bernal and Kacie Bernal; great grandchildren-Teddy Narvaez and Madeline Narvaez.
