Russell Russ Matheu Noyes, Jr, 65, passed away at his home in Hacienda Heights, California on June 8th, 2014 surrounded by his family. Born on March 23rd, 1949 in Maywood, California, Russ was born to Russell Matheu Noyes, Sr. and Alice (Carlson) Noyes. On April 24, 1976 he married Rebecca Baumann in Monterey, California, and together they had three wonderful children, Cynthia, Mathew & Amanda. He loved his family very much, and although many knew him as Russ, to his family he was always known as Butch. He will be deeply missed.
Growing up, Russ attended elementary school in Norwalk, California. He attended Santa Fe High School in Santa Fe Springs, California, graduating in 1967. He went on to attend Rio Hondo Junior College in Whittier as well as California State University in Long Beach. Russ worked as a salesman for Sam Yocum, Inc. in San Gabriel, California for 35 years. For the last 33 years, he and his family have been living in Hacienda Heights.
Among his interests were skiing, fishing, cruising, river rafting, gardening, cooking and of course, woodworking. His wife and children recall the many projects he spent time crafting around the house, including cabinets, wooden chests, wall-paneling, etc. He was very skilled in working with his hands to create so many meaningful keepsakes around his familys home.
Russ had many organizations that he was affiliated with throughout his life, most notably was his involvement at St. Marks Lutheran Church in Hacienda Heights where he served on many boards. He was also a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 620, including co-founder of the BSA Venture Crew 620. Additionally, he was a Little League coach in Hacienda Heights. He was a man who was always in service to others, and whose attitude was always positive.
Diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2000, he fought the disease long, hard, and valiantly. He won 14 more years of life, which he made sure he spent to his liking. Though increasingly crippled by weakening bones, he enjoyed a long Boy Scout hike, traveling, fishing, gardening, and woodworking projects. He was able to see his children graduate from high school, then from college; walked each daughter down the aisle on her wedding day; and reveled in meeting his two grandchildren.
Russ is survived by his wife, Rebecca Noyes; his children, Cynthia (Bernard) Salazar, Mathew Noyes, and Amanda (Eduardo) Hernandez; his grandchildren Maryanne and Matheu Salazar; and his sisters, Patricia (Edwin) Girod and Julie (Robert) Yocum.
