Ronald Hansford Floyd, 77, died unexpectedly at 3am on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at Mirada Hills Nursing Home.
Born July 11, 1940 in Los Angeles, he spent twenty-six years in the San Fernando Valley living in Sherman Oaks. He graduated from Van Nuys High in 1958, and L.A. Trade Tech in 1963 with an A.A. in photography.
Shortly thereafter, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he spent two years (1963-1965) as an Army photographer. While stationed on assignment at Fort Myer, Virginia he met Joan Dempsey at a dance. They were married on June 15, 1968.
In 1971, he began working at Hunt-Wesson Foods in Fullerton, where he continued until retiring in 2003. He spent the last thirty-nine years in La Mirada, where he raised two children.
An avid reader, he enjoyed westerns and biographies. He loved music especially Elvis Presley and a number of country artists such as Dwight Yoakam and Gram Parsons. He also spent a lot of time trout fishing in the Owens River, and spent many years as an amateur photographer. A huge sports fan, he supported the L.A. Rams, Angels, and UCLA.
He is survived by his spouse, Joan Floyd; daughter Catherine Floyd; son Michael Floyd; granddaughter Julia Zucchero; and grandson Robert Garcia.
A memorial service and reception will be held at 11am on Tuesday, January 2nd in the chapel at White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 E. Philadelphia St., Whittier. The following day a burial service with military honors will be held at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area #2, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside.
