Ronald Glenn Harris was born August 10, 1934, in Alhambra, California, to William Arthur and Alice June Harris. He passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2018, in Claremont, California, at the age of 83.
Ron grew up and went to school in the El Sereno neighborhood on the east side of Los Angeles, California. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School before continuing his education at Pasadena City College.
While working as a checker for Ralphs grocery store, Ronald met and fell in love with his sweetheart, Thora Page. He and Thora were married on August 21, 1954, in Alhambra, California, and they first settled in Alhambra. In the early 1970s Ron was assigned by his employer to work on a special project in Florida. The family was there for a short time before returning to California and settling in La Habra for the next 45 years. As the need for additional care became apparent, Ron and Thora moved to Claremont to be closer to family.
Professionally, Ronald was an aerospace engineer for about 50 years. During his career, he worked on the Apollo Rockets, the Skylab Space Station, and the Space Shuttle. It was a fascinating career one he found to be very rewarding.
A devoted husband and father, Ron found great joy in spending time with his family. They enjoyed camping and hiking together, and Ron was very active with his sons in their years of Scouting. He also enjoyed cycling, square dancing, and square dance calling. He was a regular caller for the Huggin Hearts Square Dance Club, as well as the Del Haven Community Center.
Ronald is survived by his sweetheart and wife of 63 years, Thora Harris; sons, Kenneth (Donna) and Randy (Lisa Rae) Harris; grandchildren, Andrew, Nathan (Andrea), Paige Noelle, and Rayna Drew; and a great-grandson, Oliver Scott.
