Robert John Barker was born August 29, 1919 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He died peacefully on Saturday, May 16th at his daughters home.
Bob was hard working and resourceful, holding jobs as a book binder and jeweler at a young age. He met his beautiful wife Esther at a church basketball game in 1938 and they spent 50 happy years together before she passed away.
During World War II he served in the US Army.
In 1954 the Barker family moved to Bellflower, California where Bob began working at Hughes Aircraft for one year and then began working for The Mirror newspaper. He continued thriving in his career with the Los Angeles Times until he retired in 1986.
Bob was a devoted father to his 3 girls, Patty, Bobbie and Mary. His 11 Grandchildren, 24 Great Grandchildren, and 4 Great-Great Grandchildren are blessed with happy memories of time spent with their Grandfather.
Bob enjoyed bowling, dancing, family picnics, volunteering at church and in his younger years traveling in his motor home, boating and relaxing at Lake Arrowhead and assisting family and friends with projects later in life.
Bob was married to Flora Marie Inbodin in 1996. She predeceased him.
Bobs sense of humor, joy in life and love for his family will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be held at White Emerson Mortuary in Whittier, California. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 from 5-8pm and the funeral service will be held the following day, Thursday, May 28, 2015 at 10:00am followed by burial at Olive Lawn Memorial Park.
