Richard Floyd Zurn

December 11, 1931 — April 4, 2017

Richard Floyd Zurn was born December 11, 1931, in Benson, Minnesota, to Floyd and Bertha (Benson) Zurn. He passed away on April 4, 2017, in Whittier, California, at the age of 85.

Richard grew up and went to school in Minnesota. He joined the US Navy and served his country honorably. While stationed in California, he became fond of the weather--and of a sweet young lady he met at a dance. He married that young lady, Patricia Ann Martin, and they made their home in Los Angeles County. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Stephen and Suzanne.

Family and friends will remember Richard as a hard-working man who was very unpretentous. He did not give much thought to what he had or didn't have--he just worked hard and provided for his family. He was kind and caring, yet full of spice. He will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his dear wife, Patricia; children, Stephen Zurn and Suzanne (Duane) Mertan; grandchildren, Nicholas Mertan, Megan (David) Vasquez, Justin (Cindy) Mertan, Mariah (Ryan) Bethea, Skyler Mertan, Jaden Mertan, and Kendall Mertan; great-grandchildren, Dominic Vasquez, Bentley Bethea, and Vivienne Vasquez; and siblings, Daniel (Janet) Zurn and Darlene Welch.

Mass will be celebrated at 10:30am on Monday, April 10, 2017, at St. Bruno Church, 15740 Citrustree Rd, Whittier, California. Burial will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 2161 Fullerton Rd., Rowland Heights, California.
