Phyllis M. Perkins was born November 15, 1918, in Kingston, Jamaica, to Percy and Ethel (Heron) Walker. She passed away on March 27, 2020, at her home in La Habra, California. She was 101.
Phyllis grew up and went to school in Jamaica. She met the love of her life, Albert Perkins, and they were married on February 17, 1942. They moved to the US so Albert could attend medical school in Chicago. Phyllis worked as a secretary to provide an income. After Albert graduated, they moved to Southern California where they adopted two children, Michelle and Robert. They built their dream home in La Habra Heights, where the children grew into adulthood and Albert into retirement.
Many years after Alberts death, with her children having moved on, Phyllis moved to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, to be close to her brother Henry and extended family. However, after 10 years she began to miss Southern California and returned to La Habra for her remaining years.
Phyllis loved to stay active on the computer and her iphone, playing games and keeping in touch with her family. She also found joy in spoiling others, especially her dogs, her children, and her grandson. A woman of great faith, she was a devoted member of the Catholic Church.
Surviving Phyllis are her daughter, Michelle Perkins; son, Robert Perkins, and grandson (Roberts son), Jordan Perkins.
Interment took place at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Rowland Heights, California. A funeral mass will be celebrated at a future date once current restrictions are lifted.
