Peggy Adele Andrus was born November 13, 1927, in Huntington Park, California, to William F. and Carrie M. (Zink) Hallinan. She passed away Saturday, February 23, 2013, at her home in Whittier, California.
Peggy grew up and went to school in South Gate, California, graduating from South Gate High School. On February 14, 1946, she married Raymond Andrus in South Gate. They made their home in Los Angeles County, moving to Whittier in 1948. They remained there until the time of their passing.
A very spiritual person, Peggy was devoted to her Catholic faith. She was very involved at St. Gregory the Great Church in Whittier, and she was dedicated in her support of the mission work of Sister Antonia. Peggy collected, washed and sorted clothing before sending it to Mexico. She was a compassionate and caring woman who was always in the service of others. A voracious reader, Peggy's love of reading propelled her involvement in the Friends of the Library organization. She also enjoyed writing poetry and wrote many beautiful poems. Peggy is also remembered as a very bright individual. She was politically savvy and up to date on current events. She was also eloquent with words. Most important of all, however, is that Peggy loved her family--especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Peggy is survived by her sons, Roger, Keith (Marianne) and Kevin (Laura) Andrus; sister, Jane Patronite; 7 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren with a 4th on the way. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; and daughters, Jane McGlynn and Mary Andrus.
