Pasquale 'Pat' Barilla (92) passed away at his home in La Mirada, California on Friday, September 7, 2012. Born on May 30, 1920, Pasquale was born to Francesco & Leandra Barilla in New York City, New York. He was married to Frances Flora Barilla in New York City at St. Patrick's Old Cathedral on April 19, 1942. Together they had three daughters, Leanne, Patty and Gerry.As a young boy, Pat grew up on the east side of Manhattan in an area called 'Little Italy.' He attended St. Patrick's Elementary School (New York) and La Salle Academy (New York). For college he attended St. Peter's College in New Jersey where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree. He then served in the United States Army in World War II in the North African & Italian theatres.Once he was married to Frances in 1942, he moved his family to Queens Long Island where he raised his family. There he worked for the New York City Transit System operating a bus & train. It wasn't until 1973 that his family moved to California where he worked for the La Mirada school system at La Mirada High School. He was a faithful parishioner of St. Gregory the Great, Whittier, and was also involved in the Club Italia. Among his hobbies, he loved bowling, and was a member of the Bowling Club League in Whittier.He is survived by his three daughters; Leanne Barilla, Patty Rapisarda and Gerry Hagar; five grandchildren; and 7 great grandchildren.A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 14, 2012 at 9:00AM at St. Bruno's Catholic Church, Whittier. A viewing will be held the night prior, Thursday, September 13, 2012 from 4:00PM - 5:00PM at St. Bruno's Catholic Church, Whittier. A Rosary will be held on Thursday night at 5:00PM. Interment will immediately follow the Mass on Friday at Olive Lawn Memorial Park, La Mirada.
