Oscar Vernie Janeway passed away on January 6, 2025, in Fullerton, California, at the age of 102. He was born on August 13, 1922, in Whittier, California. Oscar relocated to Glendora and attended Citrus College prior to serving his country in the United States Army during World War II.
Upon returning home, Oscar resumed his education at University of Southern California. In 1947, he married the love of his life, Lillian. They shared their life together in Monrovia and La Habra and welcomed two children along the way. Oscar supported his family by being a civil engineer with Caltrans for many years until retiring in 1984.
Oscar lived a life of faith and was very active in the La Habra United Methodist Church. He also volunteered with and served on the board of La Habra Meals on Wheels. Oscar was an avid reader and loved to sing, listen to music, play Bingo, and above all he loved spending time with his family.
Oscar is preceded in death by his wife Lillian; and survived by children, Lawrence and Donald; grandchildren, Bonnie, Heather, Matthew, Amanda; three great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
A private gravesite ceremony will be held at Rose Hills Cemetery on January 31, 2025, with a celebration of life immediately following.
Oscar will be remembered for his kind smile and positive attitude even through his final days. He was loved by his family, his caregivers, and all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
