Oscar "Big O" Rivera passed away on February 3, 2018 in Whittier, California at the age of 95. He was born on March 21, 1922 in Los Angeles, California and was a longtime resident of Whittier, California. After graduating from Whittier High School Oscar served his country in the United States Marines during World War II and fought in the pacific theater.
Upon returning home he married the love of his life, Rosa Sanchez on February 22, 1946 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. They started their life together and welcomed four children along the way. Oscar supported his family by being an auto mechanic for many years until retiring in 1990.
Oscar loved to dance, sing, play cards, help at church, listen to mariachi music and above all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
Oscar is survived by his wife of 71 years, Rosa; children, Marie (Robert) Gonzalez, Victoria (Dave) Ortega, Charles (Marie) Rivera and Fernando Rivera; grandchildren, Steven (Amber) Ortega, Emiliana (Bob) Rivera, Valerie Ortega, Daniel Rivera, Fabby Rivera and Paul Rivera.
A viewing will be held at 5pm on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at White Emerson Mortuary with a Rosary starting at 7pm. A funeral mass will be held at 10am on Friday February 9, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church followed by interment at Rose Hills Memorial Park.
