Norma Eliza Berumen, 83, passed away in Whittier, California on June 29, 2016. Born on August 8, 1932, Norma was born in Los Angeles to her parents, Manuel & Minnie (Rey) Castanon. She was married to Joe Berumen on February 17, 1951 in Los Angeles and together they had three children, Sara, Victoria & Joe. Norma and Joe have been residents of Whittier for over 46 years, and were married to each other for over 65 years. She will be missed deeply by her family and friends.
Norma was raised in East Los Angeles and graduated from Garfield High School. At age 19, she was married to Joe and worked alongside him for many years at raising their family and tending to their family business. From 1969 until 2010, Norma and Joe worked tirelessly at their business, Rubis Frosty Freeze in Whittier. Together they built a wonderful business that the community loves to this day. And while Normas hard work was shown in business, nothing compared to her work in the home. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, and her greatest accomplishment was what she gave to her family.
Norma loved cooking, going shopping and playing rummy. She especially loved taking care of all of her grandkids. She was a parishioner at St. Marys of the Assumption Catholic Church in Whittier and her faith was very important to her.
She is survived by her husband, Joe; her daughters, Sara son, Joe; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
