Nora Edith Ortiz

August 30, 1942 — November 2, 2016

Nora Edith Ortiz (ne Rivera) was born on August 30th, 1942 in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico. She was raised by her beloved Grandmother, Oliva (Mita) Carcaa.

In 1960 (late adolescence) she moved to New York City to live with her mother, Teresa.

It was there that she met her husband, Angelo Ortiz. While in New York, she gave birth to Jeff and Theresa. Her youngest son Daniel was born after the family moved to California in 1968. Nora and Angelo divorced after 13 years of marriage. Nora never remarried.

Nora is remembered as a kind and loving person for whom family meant everything. Her passions included cooking and spending time with her family. She did not have much, but what she did have, she loved to share with others.

She left Puerto Rico without completing high school, but in adulthood received her GED and then completed an A.A. degree in Early Childhood Education. She was very proud of all 3 of her children who attended college and received advanced degrees in medicine, psychology and nursing. All 3 children were influenced by Noras lifelong battle with asthma, choosing professions that helped others with illness and suffering. It was asthma that took Noras life prematurely at age 74.

Nora is survived by her sons Jeff and Daniel, daughter Theresa, Grandchildren Sophia, Cole, Jake and James, and Sisters Delia and Debra.
