Tillie Campos A.K.A. Cookie
Tillie Campos was a kind, loving, and giving woman, known as The Sweetheart of La Habra, and all those who knew her understand how this became her alias. She was a beautiful woman both internally and externally. She was a woman who loved others deeply and in a world that is so busy, she took the time to listen and to share her life. She loved God and learned of His great love for her and others by reading His Word daily. Before going to bed she devoted her time to praying for the people in her life. There is a good chance that if you are reading this, Tillie prayed for you.
She was born in Los Angeles, California on December 13, 1931 and met her best friend, husband, and the love of her life when she was a little girl at the age of 12. It is hard to think of Tillie without seeing John at her side. They go together and belong together. John and Tillie were married when she was 16 and he was 18. They shared 64 years together in marriage and appropriately Through the Years is their song.
Many call and know Tillie by Cookie, a nickname given to her by her uncle when she was a little girl because he loved her so much, as everyone who knew her did. She was 17 when she had her daughter, Mary Helen, and 18 when she had her son John Junior. Tillie was a devoted mother and made many sacrifices for her children and her family. Tillie believed in family and the importance of building memories and deep relationships with the people she loved. She was constantly encouraging people to love one another and to put away all fighting and anger reminding people that life is short and that living in peace and harmony is how we are supposed to live. She had a huge heart that embraced all those who came into her life.
She loved the community of La Habra and the surrounding area. She loved her employees who were like family. She had a laugh that was contagious. She found humor in the details of life. She loved life and she loved people and people loved her. That is evident by the number of people who celebrated special occasions with her.
Tillie Campos passed away on December 14, 2012, the day after her 81st birthday. She had spoken and connected with many of the people in her life that she loved so dearly. Tillie is survived by: her husband, John Campos; her daughter, Mary Helen and her husband Mike Mugavero; her son John Junior; her five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and her brother Danny Canales. She will be greatly missed as she was greatly loved.
