Maria Talamantes was born on October 4, 1919, in Mexico, to Ramon and Virginia (Teran) Ortega.
She passed away on July 31, 2013, at the age of 93.
Maria was raised in Mexico and married Gabriel Talamantes in 1944, who preceded her in death. To them six children were born before they came to the United States in 1956.
Two additional children were born in the United States.
Maria never drove a car and never spoke English, though she could understand the language.
She wanted to become a citizen of the United States which she accomplished as it was important to her to exercise her right to vote. She took her citizenship very serious.
Maria was very particular about her appearance and always presented herself as a true lady.
She enjoyed art and liked to paint. She also was an avid reader and stayed up on the news locally nationally, and internationally.
Her family was the center of her life. But she also found great joy in eating out at restaurants, dancing, music and going to the casinos.
During their childhood days, the children remember taking trips to Mexico in a VW - all eight of them in one car, but memories were made as a family.
Maria is survived by her children; Arturo Barron, Susana Becerra, Guillermo Barron, Jose Barron, Lorenza Martinez, Rosa Macias, Virginia Villareal and Sergio Barron, along with 24 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 1 great, great, grandchildren and many extended family members and friends.
