Joan Dirk was born on February 12, 1923, Lincoln, Nebraska, to George and Hazel (Cordner) Swanman. She passed away in Cathedral City, California, on April 15, 2013 at the age of 90.
She grew up in North Long Beach and went to Poly High School and Long Beach City College.
She worked briefly as a dental hygenist.
Joan and Robert A. Dirk were married on July 31, 1945.
Joan lived in Naples, (Long Beach) for many years and loved being near Alamitos Bay. She was
very active in her commumity and in her grand daughters lives. She loved bridge and to play Keno at just about any casino.
She was a great cook and was proud that her mashed potatoes never had 'lumps'.
She also would cook Ebelskivers for the family on special occassions.
Joan was always the first one to volunteer at her kids school as PTA President, Mother's Club President when Barbara was at USC. She was on a committee to keep the 'trees' in the bay which she dearly loved. She had a 'wicked' sense of humor and was truly one of a kind.
She lived life on her terms.
She is survived by her children: Barbara Conn, Nancy Lord and George Dirk.
Grandchildren: Stacy Conn, Jackie Yost; Son in laws, Eric Conn, Kyle Yost,daughter in law Edwina Dirk.
