Betty Mae Stacey was born in Oklahoma to Otis and Myrtle (Smith) Larison. She passed away on August 12, 2013 at the age of 78.
As her father was a carpenter for military bases, the family moved often. They lived in the states of Oregon and Colorado, before settling in Los Angeles, California, when Betty was appoximately 12 years old. Her father built their home, as well as various apartment houses in Los Angeles.
Betty graduated from Washington High School and then attended Pepperdine University when it was located in Los Angeles. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in secondary education. In her teaching career, Betty taught Home Economics and Nutrition .After teaching for a few years, Betty became an administrative assistant at Hughes Aircraft.
She met the love of her life, Gene Stacy, at Sunnyside Methodist Church in Los Angeles. They were the first couple to be married in the church's new building. To their union came four children. In addition to raising their own children, she and Gene opened their hearts and home to become foster parents for many years.
Betty loved being a homemaker and devoted herself to raising her family. She took great joy in her family, reading to grandchildren and sewing. She was an active member of the United Methodist Women and the Home Economics Society.
Betty is survived by her husband, Gene Stacey; son, Greg Stacey; daughters, Ann Hughes, Kay Gamboa, and Melynda Kreeger; sister, Pauline Mote; six grandchildren; and many friends.
