Mr. Jack James Flanagan

October 17, 1936 — February 16, 2013

Jack James Papa Jack Flanagan, 76, passed away at his home in La Mirada, California on February 16, 2013. Jack was born in Los Angeles on October 17, 1936 to Jack C. & Marie H. Flanagan. He was married to Martha Carrillo on July 30, 1960 and together they had five children: James, Patricia, Lorraine, Richard, and Liberty.

Growing up in Los Angeles, Jack attended Stevenson Junior High School. He would eventually leave high school early to join the United States Air Force. While in the service, he was a jet engine mechanic; Jack loved working with machines. When he returned from his service in the military he went to work as an automobile mechanic putting his skills to work from his training in the Air Force. Less than two years after he was discharged from the military, Jack was married to Martha at Resurrection Catholic Church in Los Angeles.

Jack had many interests throughout his life, including: watching boxing and wrestling on television, playing poker, and working on his cars. He was notorious for purchasing old cars and fixing them up to sell. With all these interests though, his favorite activity was spending time with his kids, family and friends. Whatever activity his friends and family invited him to he would go just to spend time with those who were important to him, most notably his kids. It would be accurate to say that Jacks greatest accomplishment in life was as a father.

Throughout the years, Jacks whole family was known for giving each other nicknames. Jack earned his nickname Big Boy from his siblings when he was younger. As he grew older and became a father, he was known as Papa Jack. And spending time with his children, he came to give each of them affectionate nicknames himself (see below under survivors information).

Jack is survived by his wife, Martha; children, James Pancho, Patricia Sissy, Lorraine Rainbow, and Liberty Bell; 16 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and his sisters, Marie Ann & Kathleen. Jack is preceded in death by his son Richard Ironhead Flanagan and his brother Gerald Flanagan.
