Maureen "Moe" Swanson

Maureen Moe Swanson was born on December 4, 1972 in Los Angeles, CA and was the youngest daughter of Leo Florian and Theresa Julia Casados. She had two sisters, Monica and Beverly and a younger brother Leo Anthony. Maureen was raised in Whittier and attended Gardenhill Elementary and graduated from La Mirada High School.

Maureen grew up playing sports, especially softball in which she excelled. She played catcher on a number of club softball teams and competed in tournaments around the country. One team in particular, the Batbusters, won a National Championship title. Moe never lost that competitive spirit, she was a fighter to the end.

Maureen married Chad Swanson on September 20, 1997 and they recently celebrated their 15 year anniversary. They bought a house on a cul-de-sac in Whittier shortly after they were married. They had two children Samantha (11) and Zoe (8) and anyone who knew Maureen knew that her kids were the center of her universe. The neighborhood kids loved her too. Maureens house was always full of the neighborhood kids, her friends kids and her nieces and nephews. Maureen also volunteered in their classrooms at Scott Ave School and sat on the sidelines of all of Samantha and Zoes softball, soccer and dance competitions. She will be missed throughout the city and neighborhood.

After the kids started school full time Maureen went back to work as a massage therapist. She worked for Dr. Smith at Healthways Chiropractic in La Mirada where she had a number of clients who remained her friends. She also worked as a substitute lunch lady for the East Whittier School District.

Maureen left this world on December 6, 2012 at her home in Whittier, California after a tough battle with colon cancer. She was surrounded by her family and lifelong friends. We will miss her great sense of humor, infectious smile and her love for life.



Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 10:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 15100 Cordova, La Mirada, Ca 90638
