Mary Elizabeth Betty Pepping, 96, passed away in La Habra on August 16, 2017. Born on March 26, 1921 in Los Angeles, Betty was born to her parents, Lloyd C. Wilson & Jennie N. (Tomlinson) Wilson. She was married to Edwin Pepping in 1947 and together they had three children, Tim, Teressa & Matthew.
Betty grew up in South Gate where she attended State Street Elementary School before graduating from South Gate High School. As a young woman, she enjoyed studying music. Later on, as she prepared for a career in teaching, she attended Compton Junior College and Whittier College. She taught school for 30 years in the districts of Santa Maria-Bonita, Los Angeles City & East Whittier City School Districts. Later in life, she attended Cal State University, Fullerton where she earned a Masters degree in Marriage & Family Counseling in 1986. In 1987, Betty retired from her full-time role, but continued teaching part-time with small groups until 2007. Betty was always active, helping establish womens Sunday school classes, participating in bible study classes, and utilizing her gift of counseling in the church setting to help others. She held many other interests in her life including, doing water aerobics and attending symphony concerts. She was an avid reader and always stayed current with news events.
Betty is survived by her three children, Tim Pepping, Teressa Niven & Matthew Pepping; her five grandchildren, Sarah Arviso, Calder Niven, Laura Pepping, Jordan Pepping & Bradford Pepping; and 2 great-grandchildren, Elena Arviso & Timothy Arviso.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 2:00pm at Redemption Hill Church in Whittier. A private interment will take place at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Womens Pregnancy Care Clinic in Bettys memory.
