Marlene May Maddux Galewick, 77, died from kidney failure on August 19, 2016, at her home in Whittier, California, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Marlene is survived by her husband Gordon Galewick and her 5 children Jennifer Dunn, Karen Wilkinson (Kirk), Julene Edmunds (Peter), Darryl Galewick (Monica), and Sandy Hetrick (Rick). She is also survived by her brother Bill Maddux and Sister Susie Kronenfeld. She was blessed with 26 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild on the way. She is preceded in death by her Father and Mother, George Earl Maddux and Vivian Louise Maddux.
Marlene was born on March 5, 1939 in Hollywood, California. She graduated from Garfield High School in 1957, and has many lifelong dear friends from her youth. She was married to the love of her life, Gordon, in the LA LDS Temple for almost 59 years. And in a letter written to Gordon, given to him after she passed, she said, No woman has ever been loved more by a man than I have.'
Her greatest gift in life was the ability to give Christ-like love to all she came in contact with. She compassionately served others all her life and had a strong dedication to feeding the homeless in Whittier, which she did for 32 years.
She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was in the Whittier Stake for over 50 years. She served as President of the Relief Society and the Young Womens and the Primary organizations. She was a role model for all those who knew her. People admired her as a loving and supportive wife to her husband who is a retired Los Angeles Police officer. She was also a loving mother to many more than just her own children. The family would like to thank her daughter, Jenny, and her granddaughter, Annie, for the years of service they gave as moms full time caregivers.
The world has lost a great humanitarian. Her legacy will live on in her posterity as she has taught all of us how to serve and love just like she did. When asked once why she sacrificed so much for others she replied, I am most happy when Im serving others.
Her funeral will be held on Saturday August 27th, 2016 at 11:00 am at The LDS Whittier Stake Center, 15265 Mulberry Drive, Whittier, California, 90604. A viewing will be held from 10:00 10:45 am in the Relief Society Room of the Church. After the funeral, there will be a graveside service at Deseret Lawn in Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.
