Marilyn Sue Jensen, 87, passed away in Whittier, California on Sunday morning, October 19th, 2014. Born on February 15th, 1927 in Detroit, Michigan, Marilyn was the daughter of Harold & Jeanne (Eagles) Danson. In 1954, she married William Gale Jensen, and together they had four children, David, Janet, Paul and Richard.

Marilyn was raised near Detroit, Michigan. She joined the Cadet Nurse Corps in 1945 and trained at Grace Hospital in Detroit. In 1947, she moved with her family to California and settled in the South Gate area. In 1960, she come to live in Whittier where she would spend the rest of her life.

Marilyn had a passion for writing. She was the editor of the professional magazine published by the Southern California Veterinary Medical Association in Pico Rivera for over 15 years. Additionally, Marilyn was a correspondent for the Whittier Daily News and had a column in the newspaper highlighting the rich history throughout the city of Whittier. She loved history since she was young, her son Richard tells of her being approached by representatives of the city of Santa Fe Springs to provide a pictorial history of the city, which was published in 1991. Marilyn felt that her love for composition had to be shared with others she taught creative writing at Cerritos College for many years, and also volunteered her time to the East Whittier YMCA to teach others how to write.

When Marilyn wasnt composing her literary works, she stayed very busy with her many different community associations. She was a long-time member of the Whittier Writers Club; a 15-year volunteer for the Whittier Police Department; a member of the Friends of the La Habra Library; was active in the church communities of the East Whittier Methodist Church and the Community Presbyterian Church in Whittier; and was tireless in her involvement with the PTA at Leffingwell Elementary School in East Whittier during the 1960s.

Marilyn enjoyed life. She had a personal goal to visit all 50 states and state capital buildings. Although she was only able to make it to 45 states, she was still committed to fulfilling her dream until the end. She had a love for the beach which her oldest son, David, recounts by saying, she loved watching the waves. Marilyn always had a friend wherever she went it didnt matter if she was just meeting a friend for the first time or not.

M arilyn is survived by her three sons, David, Paul & Richard; and seven grandchildren among whom Matthew, Joshua and Sarah were grateful to be with their grandmother her last few years of life. She is preceded in death by her daughter Janet (1984).
