Marian L. Barnett

Marian L. Barnett was born on June, 15, 1922 in Weyerhaeuser, Wisconsin, to Elsworth and Laura (Clark) Wilson. She passed away on July 23, 2011 in Whittier, California.Marian grew up and attended schools in Ladysmith, Wisconsin, and had the distinction of growing up in the town where her father was the sheriff. She attended Ladysmith Teachers College. At the age of 21, she moved to Southern California and took a job as a bus driver. She served in the Navy Waves during WWII and was stationed in San Diego transporting military personnel.She married William Francis Nurre in 1954 at St. Brendan's Church in Los Angeles, They were married for 25 years.In 1986, Marian married Robert Barnett and they were married 23 years. Marian's religious faith was that of Protestant Christian.She had a life-long love and interest in British Royalty, pageantry and history.She also had a life -time love for the musical theater and attended the theatre often.Marian was primarily a homemaker, but worked briefly for Farmers Insurance.She loved her home, which she considered her 'castle' and spending time with her children, grandchildren and friends.Marian was a member of the Ebell Club and the Wine and Roses Club.Her family recalls that she was an unselfish person who was always helping others. She was known for her generosity and kindness.Mrs. Barnett is survived by her children, Sandra Frankovich, Victoria Kelley, Thomas Nurre, Mike Nurre, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.A graveside service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2011 at Holy Cross Cemetery, 5835 W. Slauson Ave, Culver City, California.
