Marguerite Rose Rollins

August 21, 1937 — September 4, 2014

Marguerite was born in South Bend, Indiana on August 21, 1937 to Sophie and Herman A. Schmitt. She passed away surrounded by her family at her home in Whittier, California on September 4, 2014 at the age of 77.

Marguerite was a journalism major at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana where she met her husband of 55 years, Charles R. Rollins. The young couple drove west to California in 1959 and ended up in Long Beach, California. They moved to Whittier in 1960 where they raised their family.

Marguerite was active throughout the years in school PTAs, the East Whittier Junior Womens Club and various other organizations in the area. She loved reading, crossword puzzles, musical theater and plants. When asked what her occupation was she usually responded with Home Executive. She made sure she balanced her time between the household, her childrens schools, teachers, and friends to stay connected to the latest happenings. She became Grammy in her later years assisting with care of her grandchildren. Always thinking of others, she will be remembered as always going out of her way to accommodate her friends and family.

She is survived by her husband Charles R. Rollins; children Scott Rollins (wife Karen, Wailuku, HI), Stacy Handley (husband Gary, Yorba Linda, CA) and Sandy Bradshaw (Whittier, CA); grandchildren Tyler, Kelsie, Casey and Chase; and her brother James Edward Schmitt (Madison, WI).

A memorial service for friends and family will be held Saturday September 13, 2014 at 10:00 am at White Emerson Mortuary in Whittier.
