Margaret Loya Velasquez was born March 12, 1924, in Los Angeles, California, to Jesse and Margarita (Salazar) Loya. She passed away on January 12, 2020, in La Habra, California, at the age of 95.
Maggie, as she was affectionately known, grew up and went to school in East Los Angeles, California, graduating from Garfield High School. She met the love of her life, John Velasquez, and they were married on February 6, 1950. They were married for 61 years and blessed with two sons, John and Tom.
A very sweet and caring person, Maggie never had an unkind word for anyone. She adored her family and enjoyed spending time with them more than anything else. They will forever remember her as a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. Maggie was also a very creative person and enjoyed arts and crafts, cooking, and the Dodgers!
Maggie is survived by sons, John (Christi) and Tom (Sookie) Velasquez; sisters, Hortencia Dennis and Adela Jimenez; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Viewing will take place from 10:00 10:40am on Friday, January 24th, at St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7215 Newlin Ave., Whittier, California. A Rosary will then be led at 10:40am, followed by Mass at 11:15am. Private Interment will take place at Riverside National Cemetery.
