Margaret Claire Nemecek

Margaret Claire 'Margie' Nemecek was born on March 6, 1920 in Creighton, Nebraska to parents Edwin Hugh Leslie and Ida May Schmidt. She grew up on a farm in Plainview, Nebraska where her father was a farmer during the Depression. Margaret was the sixth of seven children. She worked as a teacher at a county school house in Nebraska until her move West to California in 1940 when the war broke out. Margaret was a true 'Rosie the Riveter' until she married her boss, Paul Joseph Nemecek, on May 18, 1946 at Saint Helens Church in South Gate, California. The couple moved to Whittier in 1952 when they bought their first house. Paul worked as an engineer for NASA while Margaret was a homemaker, seamstress, cosmologist, and a wonderful mother who stayed at home!Margaret enjoyed cake decorating, quilting, painting (ail, water, acrylic, tole), gardening, genealogy, and working as a cub-scout/girl-scout leader. She was also very active in the community of Saint Mary of the Assumption church in Whittier. Margaret served as the Chairperson of Respect Life and Altar Society. She was an active leader and pioneer in the pro-life movement. She was the founder of WPCC, now known as the Whittier Life Center located on Painter Avenue. Mrs. Margaret Nemecek has been defending unborn babies and their mothers since 1971.Margaret Nemecek passed away on March 10, 2011 in Whittier, California to join her husband Paul who passed away on March 8, 1998. She is survived by her children John, Thomas, Coralyn (Claire), Christopher, and William. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
