Magdalena Salazar
April 11, 1929 - December 15, 2016
Magdalena Salazar was born April 11, 1929, in Alamagordo, New Mexico, to Pedro and Francisca (Reaza) Sanchez. She passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2016, at the age of 87.
Though Magdalena spent her first years in New Mexico, El Paso, Texas, was where she grew up and went to school. The needs of the family required that Magdalena go to work following the 8th grade, yet that strong work ethic served to bless her life. Putting the interest of her children first, Magdalena packed up her kids and headed for California in 1957. She gained employment as a seamstress in Los Angeles and studied at night. Her effort paid off. She earned her GED and completed college level courses to become a dental assistant and eventually a secretary for the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Mrs. Salazar was a devoted Catholic, and she enjoyed reading and dancing. Above all else, she loved her family! She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, and she was a loving caregiver to her mother and her brothers before their deaths. Her life serves as a testimony of individual strength, founded on a strong-will, hard work, and determination. She was fiercely independent, yet one who could always be depended upon.
Magdalena leaves behind her children, Ricardo (Arlene) Barbosa, Irma (Paul) Bobadilla, and Norma Nieto; grandchildren, Anthony, Paul Michael and David Bobadilla, and Adrianne Malave; great-grandchildren, Matthew, Isabella, Victoria, Emily, Michael, Lorenzo, and Marco; and one great-great grandson, Anakin.
