Luz Belen Garcia, 68, passed away in Whittier, California on April 24, 2019 after battling cancer for many years. Born on April 3, 1951 in Berkeley, California she was born to Vicente & Eva Calderon. She was married to the love of her life, Joe Garcia, and together they had two devoted sons, Joe & Joaquin. While her family grieves the loss of their beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sibling, they celebrate that she now rests safely in the presence of her LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Luz spent most of her growing up years in Whittier, attending California High School. She went on to attend Rio Hondo College, taking courses that helped her become a local educator. She loved educating students and faithfully served as a paraeducator in the East Whittier City School District for many years. Luz had a special heart for working with those who were severely handicapped in the special education programs.
Luz loved attending church and served faithfully at The Church on Brady in east Los Angeles. She also became involved in the ministry at Redemption Hill Church in Whittier where her son, Joaquin, served on the pastoral staff. Luz had the gift of hospitality. She used this gift to make others feel special. From cooking delicious food to giving gifts to those in order to make them feel special, she worked tirelessly to be the presence of her Savior to those she came in contact with.
Luz is survived by her husband, Joe; her sons, Joe & Joaquin; her grandchildren, Clark, Banner, Max, Isaiah, Levi and Mercy; and her siblings, Vince, Laura, Eva and Cristina. She will be missed deeply by her family and all who knew her.
