Lloyd Virgil Lucero Sr.

Lloyd Virgil Lucero, Sr., father, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather, passed away. at 2:31 in the afternoon on July 22, 2020. He could be stern, he could be funny, he could tell really, really bad dad jokes.

Lloyd was born September 17, 1928 in Ft. Collins, Colorado to Mary and Eloy Lucero. He grew up in the Great Depression and knew the value of saving. He always told us stories of his "miss deeds" at the corner store, picking potatoes in Nebraska (he so didn't like that work) and making choke cherry wine with his Mom.

Lloyd was too young for World War II, instead enlisting for the Korean War and sharing pictures of his Army buddies. When Lloyd got back from the service, he moved to Los Angeles, where he trained at LA Trade Technical College as a machinist. Lloyd met Jessie Trujillo at a dance in 1950 and they were married at St. Vibiana's in East Los Angeles in 1951.

Lloyd worked as a lead machinist for aerospace - McDonald Douglas for his entire working life. Money could be tight raising 8 kids (six girls, two boys), and living in a three bedroom house in South Central LoHe worked exremely hard...even trading his services to keep his children in catholic school. In 1973 Lloyd and Jessie moved to a 6 bedroom home in Whittier, CA. It was their palace where Lloyd kept a garden and spoiled his grandkids and his dog, Lark. Lloyd lived there after Jessie passed until stroke and heart attack required that he have 24 hour care.

And then there was Covid. Lloyd contracted the illness and serious symptoms sent him to skilled nursing last Wednesday.? All the nurses said he was pretty feisty and a good patient. After a week, and at 91, his body was too weak to continue.

The children and grandchildren remember his sayings and funny antics...hearing him say "keep it down to a lions roar", watching old movies, listening to music from the 40's, watching him dance with their mom,, and not answering the phone if he was watching Jeopardy.

So with graciousness, the Doctor and ICU staff, allowed four of his children who could be with him say goodbye as he peacefully stopped breathing. Now he is adncing to Glen Miller and Frank Sinatra with Jessie at his side and Demerique is toasting them both.
