LeVreta Emmagene Hill

LeVreta Emmagene Hill was born on July 7, 1929 in Springfield, MO. to Ray and Gladys (Dotson) Woodall. She passed away on November 6, 2014 in Downey, California, at the age of 85.



LeVreta grew up in Springfield, Mo. and attended Taft Elementary, Pipkin Jr. High and Springfield Senior High School. She attended Mt. Carmel Methodist Church, and although they attended the same schools, church is where she met her future husband (Bill). They were married for 67 years.



She married Fred Hill (aka -Bill) on July 6, 1947 at Mount Carmel Methodist Church in Springfield, MO. Following their marriage Bill was transferred to Independence, Kansas, to work for Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. Larry and Linda were both born in Independence. In 1951, he was transferred to Joplin, MO. where Diana was born.





Bill transferred one more time in 1958, this time to California. Bell Gardens, CA became their home for many years. LeVreta was a homemaker. She stayed at home and raised the kids while Bill worked to support the family. LeVreta did babysitting for working moms, some of those babies being her own grandchildren. During those years, and for many afterward, she also raised several generations of tortoises, which she was expert at.





LeVreta loved going to Joshua Tree Monument in their 5th wheel trailer. For many years it was a biannual event, and they were usually joined by one or more of their kids and grand kids. She loved being with the grand children, and they all can share fond memories of her.





Other interests she had, included working crossword puzzles, drawing, reading, embroidering, and collecting dolls. She held a special interest in Native American dolls and collectibles.



She is survived by, son, Larry Hill (Sharon); Linda Christie, daughter; Diana Hill, daughter; grandchildren: Gina, Nyra, Johnny, Julie, Jamie, Larry Jr. and 14 great grand children, aged 3 to 23 years old.



A viewing will take place on Thursday, November 13, 2014, at 12 noon at White Emerson Mortuary, Whittier, California.



A service will follow at 1 pm, with burial at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, California, following the service.
