LaRue Joyce Bromberg

September 19, 1936 — January 15, 2018

LaRue Joyce Bromberg, 81, passed away in Whittier on January 15, 2018. Born on September 19, 1936 in Bismark, North Dakota, LaRue was born to her parents Gottfried Heine, Jr. and Ida Eva (Stoller) Heine. She was a strong & devoted woman who served her country in the United States Army where she met her husband, Myron Bromberg. LaRue & Myron were married on December 19, 1959 in Hazen, North Dakota and together they had three children, Steve, Kerry & Beth. Her life touched so many lives, in so many ways, and she will be missed deeply by her friends and family.

As a young girl, LaRue was raised in Krem, North Dakota until the age of five. Living in a German community, LaRue only spoke German during these early years. Her family would end up moving to Hazen, North Dakota where she lived through her high school years. She graduated from Hazen High School in 1954 before attending the Lutheran Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, Minnesota. For three years, she devoted herself to becoming a registered nurse, graduating from the school of nursing in 1957. Her certification as a licensed RN served her very well as she served as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Nurses Corps of the US Army. LaRue was based at Letterman Army Hospital on the Presidio in San Francisco, California. It was during her time in the service that she met the man that would become her husband of 58 years, Myron Bromberg. They would be married after only a very short period of courting, but their love was clearly destined to stay for good.

After being discharged from the military, she would spend the rest of her life in Whittier. She served her community as an RN at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital (currently PIH Health Hospital in Whittier; at the time she started only a newly organized hospital). As an RN, she later worked alongside an internist, Dr. Dean Denman. Her work as an RN was not confined just to the hospital, as she also worked as a school nurse in the East Whittier City School District for many years as well.

LaRue had many interests & devotions in her life. One of her favorite pastimes was boating at Trinity Lake in Northern California. She and Myron would load up and head out for adventures on the lake, enjoying the serenity of nature and making lifelong memories. Among the many activities in her life, she was committed to her involvement in church, being a member of Faith Lutheran Church for many years. She also thoroughly enjoyed her time with the East Whittier Womens Club, establishing & developing many relationships with the ladies of that club. And while all of these activities brought her much satisfaction in life, nothing gave her greater joy than her family. LaRue was aware of one of the great realities in life: ones family is a deep wellspring of satisfaction & joy in life. As her husband, Myron, reflects on their life together, he captured it best by saying, Weve had a wonderful life together.

LaRue is survived by her husband, Myron Bromberg; her sons, Steve Bromberg and Kerry Bromberg; her daughter, Beth Baldonado; her brother Larry Heine; and her beloved grandchildren, Christopher Bromberg, Katie Bromberg, Caroline Bromberg, Makayla Baldonado and Matthew Baldonado.

A memorial service in LaRues honor will take place on Wednesday, January 24th, 2018 at 10am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fullerton. LaRue will be laid to rest at Riverside National Cemetery in Riverside following the memorial service.
