Kathryn Ann Goodwin was born on June 2, 1917 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Herbert and Marguerite (Weinbrenner) Kamschulte. Kay grew up in Milwaukee but moved and lived in other places throughout her life including: Chicago, Evanston, Bourbonnais, and Kankakee, Illinois, Lansing, Michigan, Nougatuck and Cheshire, Connecticut; and finally La Habra, California where she lived her final 53 years.
Kay attended Michigan State University and received her Bachelor of Science degree. During her time at Michigan State, she was involved in the Sigma Kappa Sorority.
In her personal life, Kathryn married Robert George Goodwin in Chicago, Illinois. The couple raised a family of five children: James, William, Thomas, Richard and Mary Kay (Tomlinson).
Throughout her life, Kathryn had a number of hobbies and interests. She enjoyed playing Bridge and board games and was involved in physical activities at the Whittier, WMCA until the age of 93. Those activities included swimming, water aerobics and Tai Chi. She also was a devoted walker. She walked to and from her job of school teaching every day. Her active lifestyle kept her in excellent health until nearly the end of her life.
And finally, not the least of her activities included her faith and her involvement in the Catholic Church. She was involved at St. Brunos Catholic Church in Whittier, California and Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in La Habra, California. She assisted in the Christian Initiation, Catechesis, Master Catechist and aided in ministering to the sick.
Kathryn passed away on Monday, April 1 at 7:12pm in La Habra, California. She now joins her husband, her daughter, her grandson and her granddaughter in the presence of our Lord. Her surviving relatives include her four sons, James, William, Thomas and Richard, her younger sister, Janet Bertram, five grandchildren and two great grandchild.
Services will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at 7:00pm at White Emerson Mortuary in Whittier, California for the Vigil Service and Friday, April 5, 2013 at 9:00am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in La Habra, California followed by an interment at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Rowland Heights.
