Juana Pasillas Zamora died peacefully surrounded by her loving family Friday September 4, 2015 at the age of 92. She immigrated to the United States from Rancho de Viudas, Valparaiso, Zacatecas, Mexico, in 1947 and gained her citizenship in 1996. Her husband of sixty-six years, Alfonso Zamora, passed in 2006.
Juana is survived by her eight children, 14 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. She was a devoted mother who was especially proud of the accomplishments of her children who include: Ruth Zamora of Santa Fe Springs a retired registered nurse and graduate of University of California, Long Beach; Guadalupe (Lupe) Magaa of Ontario, California, retired from Los Angeles County Housing Authority; Dolores Zamora of Santa Fe Springs, an employee of Kaiser Permanente; Maria Montao a teacher, graduate of University of California, Long Beach; and Aurora Morales, a speech pathologist with a Masters Degree from Whittier College. Juana's three sons Jos, Johnnie, and Antonio are all retired Los Angeles Police Department officers. Jos is a Vietnam veteran with two Purple Hearts. Antonio and Johnnie are also graduates of University of California, Long Beach.
Juana's great loves were her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and cooking native Mexican food for them. She was also an avid gardener with a remarkable collection of cacti and succulents. She will also be remembered for her devotion to the Catholic Church and the Virgin de Guadalupe in particular.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, September 18, 2015 at 9:30AM at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Los Nietos, California. A Viewing will be held the evening prior, Thursday, September 17, 2015 at White Emerson Mortuary, Whittier, from 5:00 p.m. 7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m.. Interment will take place at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
