Joyce Cecilia Outhier was born May 6, 1928, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ivan Delos and LaVon (Deuel) Fewkes. She passed away April 18, 2015, in Fullerton, California, at the age of 86.
Joyce grew up and attended school in Long Beach, California. On June 24, 1946, she married the love of her life, James Ray Outhier, in Bell Gardens, California. They were later sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Joyce and James settled in Whittier, California, where they raised their five children. Her later years were spent in Palm Desert, La Mirada, and Brea, California.
A very industrious and crafty lady, Joyce enjoyed, sewing, crocheting, doll-making, and so on. She was musically gifted. She played the piano, violin, and guitar, and she had a beautiful voice. Gardening was another of Joyces favorite things. She also liked to bowl and play bridge. Joyce was a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and she was active in her service to others. Professionally, Joyce worked as a retail clerk for Savon for nearly 20 years. She will be remembered as a strong-willed, yet patient peacemaker, who was extremely devoted to her family.
Survivors include her children, Alan Ralph Outhier, James Curtis (Jackie) Outhier, Dolores Rae (DeRees) Clark, Darell Dee (Cerise) Outhier, and Ronald Joel (Christine) Outhier; one brother, Trent (Janice) Fewkes; 14 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James, her two sisters, Dolores Fewkes and Bonnie Fewkes, and two grandchildren, Trent and Benjamin Outhier.
A Graveside Service will take place at 9:30am on Friday, April 24, 2015, at Desert Memorial Park, 31-705 Da Vall Dr., Cathedral City, California. A Memorial Service will be held at 11am the following morning, Saturday, April 25, 2015, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 15265 Mulberry Dr., Whittier, California.
