Joseph Lieggi, 'Joe the Barber', beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, moved on to be with the Lord Jesus on December 12, 2014 in Whittier, California, at the age of 86.
He was born on July 11,1928 in Chicago, IL.
Later he moved to Whittier, California where he resided until his death.
Joe began cutting hair at the age of 19 after graduation from high school and attending Barber School and acquiring his license. He served in the Army where he was a chauffeur to a Commanding Officer, then becoming the ships barber on the General Hershey ship that transported soldiers to the Korean War. He completed his enlistment and continued barbering.
In 1953 he married the love of his life, Esther.
He opened his barbering business in the early 1960's in Whittier, relocating once and remained in uptown Whittier on Hadley Ave. until he retired. He barbered for 64 years.
Joe was well liked, young and old would loyally flock to his shop for their old-fashioned hair cuts until retirement at the age of 83.
Joe was an avid sports fan and enjoyed talking and watching sports especially the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed watching college sports as well and could pick the winners.
Joseph is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Esther Lieggi, along with with six sons; Joseph Jr. & wife Becky, John & wife Laurie, Ron and wife Theresa, David, Alan, Paul and wife Susan, and only daughter Ruth Ann McEntire and husband Jeff; 14 grand children and 7 great grandchildren; a wonderful brother Nick Lieggi and sister, Jeannie Bennett, along with many nieces and nephews.
His parents John and Madelana and sister Angele Niemeyer preceded him in death.
A public viewing will take place on Monday, December 15,2014, 5-8pm at White Emerson Mortuary,
Funeral service will be on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at 1pm at White Emerson Mortuary Chapel.
Interment will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, California
