John A. Spix, 95, was born 26 June 1921 in Chicago, Illinois, to George A. Spix and wife Lucy Petermann Spix. He died on Wednesday evening, 23 November 2017, at the home of his son, Richard, in Huntington Beach, California.
John grew up and went to school in Chicago. Following high school he attended the Illinois Institute of Technology where he studied electrical engineering. He responded to his countrys call and served honorably in the US Army during World War II (Jan 1943 October 1945).
On 5 July 1949, John married the love of his life, Jeanne Marie Holman, in Douglas, Arizona. They were blessed with four children: Michael, Richard, Mary, and Paul John.
A Masters degree in electrical engineering prepared John well for a career with Southern California Edison Company. He was instrumental in building the tram at Palm Springs and the Nuclear Power Plant at San Clemente, California. Outside of work, John enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He was a very talented wood craftsman who built a beautiful grandfather clock, his own casket, and many other beautiful pieces of furniture. Johns will be remembered for his kindness. He loved his family and was good to others. For many years he helped senior citizens prepare their tax returns.
John leaves two sons, Michael (Mary) and Richard (Liz) Spix; his daughter, Mary (Anthony) Massasso; seven grandchildren, Lisa, Julie, Steven, James, Diana, Ivan and Joel; and four great-grandchildren to mourn his passing. His parents, wife, and youngest son preceded him in death.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00am on Friday, 2 December 2016, at St. Bruno Church, 15740 Citrustree Road, Whittier, California, followed by military honors. A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00am on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at Riverside National Cemetery, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, California.
