Joe Berumen was born November 17, 1929 in Los Angeles, California to Juan and Martina (Acuna) Berumen. He grew up with six brothers and sisters and graduated high school in East Los Angeles, California. In January 1947, Joe began his service with the United States Army until August 1948.
A few years later, on February 17, 1951 Joe married Norma Eliza Castanon in Los Angeles, California. The couple had three children, Sara, Victoria and Joe.
In 1969, Joe founded Rubis Frosty Freeze which is still a successful business and fixture in Whittier, California. He and Norma moved to Whittier in 1970 and the Berumen family became parishioners at St. Mary of the Assumption Church.
On December 25, 2017, at the age of 88, Joe passed away at his home in Whittier, California and was reunited with his wife Norma who preceded him in death just a year and a half prior. He is survived by his three children: Sara Ann Corella, Victoria Perretta and Joe Berumen, his 7 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
A Viewing will take place at White Emerson Mortuary in Whittier, California on Friday, December 29, 2017 from 4:00-7:00pm with a Rosary said at 7:00pm. The Mass will take place on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at 10:30am at St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Whittier, California. Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Rosemead, California. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to St. Mary of the Assumption Church in Joes name.
