Joan Dixon Ramsey, 89, passed away in Pico Rivera on April 8, 2016. Joan was born in Long Beach on May 9, 1926, to Charles and Vera (Browning) Dixon, along with her brothers Kenneth and Bruce Dixon. She was married to Charles V. Ramsey and had four children, Eileen, Alison, Darren and Leanne. Joan will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
Joan was raised in the Los Angeles area, living in Whittier, Long Beach and Huntington Park. She graduated from Huntington Park High School and went on to attend UCLA. After high school and college, she became a science teacher and a college advisement counselor for 38 years. Her loyalty to UCLA extended past her time as a student, as she was a devoted UCLA sports fan, and also a member of the UCLA Alumni Association. She lived with her family in the same house in Pico Rivera for over 60 years. She had many interests in life which included traveling, attending theatre productions, and especially vacationing with her family in San Clemente. She was very involved with the First Christian Church of Whittier as well as the Pico Rivera Womens Club.
Joan is survived by her four children, Eileen (John) Gizienski, Alison (Eric) Johnson, Darren (Mary) Ramsey, and Leanne (Enio) Iezza; and 13 grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 11:00am at the First Christian Church of Whittier, 6355 Greenleaf Ave., Whittier. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to The Ronald McDonald House Charity or The American Heart Association.
