James Jim Harold Taylor, 73, passed away on August 8, 2016 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jim was born in Greene County, Virginia on November 20, 1942 to his parents Dan & Lillie (Lamb) Taylor. Jim was quite a character throughout his life, and he will be missed deeply by his friends and family.
Although born in Greene County, Virginia, Jim grew up in nearby Charlottesville. He would eventually move to sunny, southern California where he lived in Gardena before coming to live in Whittier. Jim worked as a diesel mechanic and truck (18-wheeler) driver for many years before he retired in Fort Mohave, Arizona.
Working on and rebuilding classic cars was one of Jims biggest passions in life. His first rebuilt car was a 1931 Plymouth before taking on his 1967 GTX Plymouth. His dream car to rebuild was a 1949-1952 Mercury. Jim was a member of the classic car club American Streetrodders So Cal in Whittier. He also joined the River City Cruisers in Fort Mohave, Arizona after re-locating.
As was mentioned, Jim was quite a character in life. He loved telling stories to everyone around him. His daughter, Nicole, shares that, he might tell the same story but with a different endingjust to keep things interesting for those who had already heard it before. He was a fan of Nascar, always loved having a cold beer with friends, and also taking care of his 4-legged son, Bandit. His enjoyment of life never kept him from the things that were truly important, like being a fun-loving dad and a supportive husband.
Jim is survived by his wife, Socorro Sukie and his step-daughter, Nicole; his son, Dean Taylor and wife, Ella, along with their children: Kendra, Brandon and Alyssa. He is also survived by his daughter, Lynn, her husband, Ralph, and their children: Ashley, Taylor and James. Additionally, Jim was blessed and survived by his great-grandchildren, Alex & Jameson.
A funeral service will be held in Jims memory on Friday, August 19, 2016 at 11:00AM at White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 Philadelphia St., Whittier, California. A memorial gathering will be held the night prior, Thursday, August 18, 2016 at 7:00PM at the mortuary for family members and friends to share a story in his honor. Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery, Rosemead, following the funeral service.
