Jacob Ronald Kurtz was born January 7, 1939, in Louisville, Kentucky, to Jacob Joseph and Catherine Marie (Koellman) Kurtz. He passed away September 5, 2015, in Whittier, California, at the age if 76.
Ron, as he was most commonly known, grew up and went to school in Louisville. Following high school, he served honorably in the Kentucky National Guard and the US Army Reserve. Ron entered seminary in Louisville for a time, studying to be a priest. He later opted to leave the seminary and moved to Los Angeles, California, where he spent 20 years with the phone company. A numismatist (coin collector) at heart, Ron also owned and operated several coin shops over the years. The majority of those years, 31 in total, were spent at Whittier Coins, his shop in Whittier, California.
Golf was a big part of Rons life. He loved to play and to watch it on TV. He also enjoyed sport fishing and bird watching. He was a member of Elks Lodges in Poway and La Habra, California. Most of all, however, he loved his family.
Ron is survived by his wife, Betty; son Christopher Jason (Stacy) Kurtz; daughter, Rhonda Renee Kurtz;
s-daughter, Vanessa Inforzato; s-sons, Mario and Dominic Garcia; son-like friend, Beaver, s-granddaughter, Hailey Bowen; granddaughter, Chloe Kurtz; grandsons, Talon Moyer and Jason Lee Kurtz; s-grandson, Noah Garcia.
Viewing will take place from 5-8pm on Monday, September 14, 2015, at White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 E. Philadelphia St., Whittier, California. A funeral service will be held at 11am the following morning, Tuesday, September 15, 2015, also at White Emerson Mortuary. Interment will immediately follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, California.
