Isaias Mercado

Isaias Mercado was born January 13, 1931, in Zacatecas, Mexico, to Fermin and Anastacia (Carlos) Mercado. He passed away Monday, February 3, 2014, in Whittier, California, at the age of 83.



Isaias was born and raised in Zacatecas. He married Rosa Bueno and they were blessed with eight children: Cuco, Alfredo, Javier, Fermin, Aurora, Tony, Ana and Yolanda. He loved his family very much, as well as the in-laws, grandchildren and great-grandchildren that followed.



In 1968, Isaias immigrated to the US in search of a better life for his family. The family followed a couple years later. While he held many different jobs, he spent most of his time working in restaurants. His last job was at Candlewood Country Club in Whittier.



Mr. Mercado enjoyed gardening and handyman tasks....especially if they involved a hammer! He had a real sweet tooth and loved candy. A real 'joker', Isaias loved having fun teasing people. Animals were also very dear to him.



Isaias will be remembered as a strong, determined individual who was hard-working and full of energy. He was kind and generous and had a wonderful sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.



Survivors include his children, Cuco (Valen) Mercado, Alfredo Mercado, Javier (Silvia) Mercado, Fermin (Marcela) Mercado, Aurora (Peter) Rodriguez, Ana (Daniel) Ortega, and Yolanda (Jesse) Mercado-Alvarez; 24 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his dear wife, Rosa, and his son, Tony.



Viewing will take place from 6-7pm on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 13935 Telegraph Rd., Whittier, California. A Vigil Service will immediately follow at 7pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am the following morning, Thursday, February 6, 2014, also at St. Gregory the Great. Intermenet will immediately follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Rowland Heights, California.
