Henry 'Hank' A. Cendejas was born September 10, 1918 in Los Angeles, California to Jeronimo and Dolores Cendejas. He passed away on April 13, 2011 in Whittier, California.Henry grew up in Los Angeles and attended schools in the Boyle Heights area. With a high intelligence level and photographic mind, Henry was promoted two grades while in elementary school.As a young man, he went to work for the Standard Oil Company to help support the family during the great depression. With his exceptional skills he was promoted to an accountant position while only being sixteen years of age.Henry served in the United States Army Air Force and was stationed in Alaska, Oregon, and Washington. With the new military security technology, Henry held the distinction of being one of the first Radar Specialist's in the service.On April 18, 1964, he married Elizabeth Hurtado at St. Alphonsus Church in Los Angeles.Henry has resided in Whittier, California, for the last 45 years and was employed by the Los Angeles County Purchasing Department as a Deputy Supervisor, for almost thirty years.Henry's hobbies included traveling, dancing, and participating in several senior organizations as well as social clubs.He and his family have been members of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Whittier, California, for over 40 years. His children attended St. Mary's School as well as St. Paul High School.Mr. Cendejas is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Cendejas; son, Henry (Beth) Cendejas; daughter, Sandra (Ken) Berry and three grandchildren.Viewing will begin at 5 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2011 at White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 E. Philadelphia Street, Whittier, California, with a Vigil at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, 7215 South Newlin Avenue, Whittier, California. Burial will take place at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, California.
