Helen B. Torres

Helen Torres was born May 25, 1923, in Los Angeles, California, to Primitivo and Josephine (Mendoza) Barela.She grew up and attended Hollenbeck Jr. High School and graduated from Roosevelt High School.She was married Louis O. Torres for 38 years before his passing.Being widowed at the age of 55, she devoted herself to her family.Helen was a beautician and owner of a beauty shop for 20 years. She enjoyed the many friends she made over the years.Helen was a devout Catholic and went to church every day and said the rosary daily.She loved her family and took delight in cooking ffor them.She was active at St. Linus and Holy Family and belonged to the Legion of Mary club.The family sends a special thanks to all the staff and residents at Emeritus in Whittier, for making her last years so very happy.Helen is survived by her children: Louis Torres and Geraldine Howard, along with her sister, Gloria Mosqueda and 7 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.A vigil will take place at 7pm, Thursday, June 28, 2012, at White Emerson Mortuary, 13304 Philadelphia Street, Whittier, California.A Mass for Christian Burial will be held on Friday, June 29th at 11:15am, St. Mary of the Assumption Church, 7215 Newlin Avenue, Whittier, California, 90602, 562-698-0107.Interment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Monterey Park, California.
