Gwen Lee McKeon was born September 16, 1930, in Los Angeles, California, to George Washington and Gwendolyn Gloria (Smith) Boyd. She passed away Friday, July 25, 2014, in Whittier, California, at the age of 83.
Gwen Lee grew up and went to school in the area of Rosemead, California, graduating from El Monte High School in 1948. She was accepted to BYU and worked at a drug store in San Marino to pay for school. However, she met and fell in love with her sweetheart, Gerald. Though Gwen Lee did go off to BYU, she promptly returned home in response to a marriage proposal.
On November 25, 1949, Gwen Lee married Naval Lt. Gerald Wilburn McKeon in Pasadena, California. One week later, they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Gwen Lee and Gerald made their home in Temple City, California, where they started their family. They built a new home in Whittier, California, and moved there in 1957. They have remained in the same home since that time.
Family was most important to Gwen Lee. She was a devoted wife, a loving mother, and a wonderful grandmother. Nothing brought her more joy! Gwen Lee also enjoyed traveling, dining, her prized rose garden and spending time with her friends. She found great joy in serving others. A devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Gwen Lee served in many capacities over the years. She especially enjoyed working with the children and as Compassionate Service Leader. Gwen Lee will be remembered as a compassionate, valiant, and nurturing individual. She was very meticulous and classy.
Survivors include her husband, Gerald; sons, Gregory, Mark (Amy) and Brad McKeon; daughter, Kimberlee Duncan; brother, George (Heather) Boyd; four grandchildren; several loving caregivers; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jack Adelbert Boyd.
Viewing will take place from 9-9:45am on Friday, August 1st, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 7906 Pickering Ave., Whittier, CA. A service will follow at 10am, with interment at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.
