Glenn Theodore Sopp was born February 10, 1926, in Maywood, California, to Raymond Webster Sopp and Adeline DiPierro.He had one sibling, Ray Sopp, Jr., who pre-deceased him in 1999. Glenn grew up in Maywood and graduated from Bell High School in 1944. He majored in journalism and lettered in track.Glenn went into the army shortly after graduation, and was assisgned to the Signal Corps where they found out how well he typed.He was sent to Okinawa and later South Korea, where he said he 'fought the battle of the occupation and never fired a shot in anger'.Following his discharge, Glenn went to East Los Angeles Junior College and became a sports editor. His passion was always sports and he followed it closely. He loved to bowl and in his last league, before his stroke in 2001, carried an average of 190.He met Cleo at the St. Rose of Lima young people's club, the BAC-SPINS, and they were married July 30, 1955. They moved to Whittier in 1956 and Glenn began his career in real estate, partnering with Nick Pondoff for many years (Pondoff-Sopp Realty).In 1962, they adopted Paul and then in 1956 Kathleen (Candy). They are now wonderful adults and very supportive of their parents.Glenn loved to travel and he and Cleo went on many trips and cruises. He had his first stroke in 1990, and a few years later became a proud member of Alcoholics Anonymous, turned his life over to God, and stayed sober until his passing at age 86.Glenn became severely disabled following a second stroke, and entered Walnut Villa, an elder care facility in Whittier, next door to St. Gregory the Great Church, where he received loving care for almost nine years until his death on February 14, 2012.He is survived by his wife, Cleo, and their children, Paul Bennett Sopp, who lives in Florida with his wife Crystal and their daughter, Skylar, and Katheleen (Candy) Sopp, who resides in Long Beach, as well as sister-in-law Jeanne, two nieces and a nephew.A memorial service will be held on Friday, February 17, 2012, at 11am at White Emerson Mortuary Chapel, followed by a reception for family and friends at White Emerson.
