Frederick James Luhm was born August 5, 1944, in Village of Wild Rose, Wisconsin, to Frederick A. and Regina (Brostowitz) Luhm. He passed away on Saturday, November 11, 2017, in Irvine, California, at the age of 73.
Fred, as he was known, spent his first years in Milwaukee. At the age of 9, he and his family arrived in the Los Angeles area where he grew up and finished school. Fred went on to serve honorably in the US Army and subsequently returned to Los Angeles. He met and married Nancy Fox, and they were blessed with two sons, Fred and Michael. Fred has lived in the same home in Whittier for over 40 years.
Professionally, Fred was a truck driver for about 40 years. He transported dairy for Jersey Maid and continued with Vons Grocery following their acquisition of Jersey Maid. He was a very hard worker, driven to provide for his family. He also taught his sons the value of hard work and the importance of earning what you receive. Freds work ethic carried over to his personal life. He was a do it yourselfer, never one to hire out what he could do for himself. He also enjoyed working in his yard.
Fred enjoyed being at home more than anywhere else, but he definitely wasnt anti-social! His place was simply the place to be. He had an open-door policy and loved to invite folks in to visit. He was a great listener, imparting his wisdom only when asked to do so. Fred will be remembered as a mello man who was very wise and caring. People mattered to him, and he always made folks feel it. He deeply loved his family and friends, and he was deeply loved.
Surviving Fred are his sons, Fred (Wendy) and Michael (Melissa) Luhm; sisters, Mary Bolton, Barbara Luhm, Polly Bartels; brother, Mike Luhm; and grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Camryn, Madylyn, Myles, Molly, and Meyson.
